The GridKicker: Bringing Portable Power to the People!
GridKicker, LLC, after years of R&D, prototyping and securing Intellectual Properties, is ready to bring to market a truly revolutionary way to provide steady state power with scalability, portability, and profitability. The GridKicker is a solar generator unlike any other.
The GridKicker is a true all in one plug-n-play device. Simply open it up, turn it on, and plug in to one of the provided AC outlets for instant steady state power. The smart energy management system will take care of the rest. The GridKicker runs a proprietary algorithm that controls the charge and discharge levels of the batteries. By running the algorithm, the GridKicker significantly extends the life of the batteries rather than if they were charged and discharged in the traditional sense of full to empty.
The GridKicker can stand alone, providing either AC or DC power as needed, or can be linked together with other GridKickers to form a field or array, effectively creating a microgrid. Microgrids are globally seen as the future of power generation and storage. Microgrids provide autonomy, so if one section goes down, the rest of the grid is not affected. They also eliminate transmission costs as they provide the power when and where it is needed. A microgrid constructed using GridKickers allows for a much shorter return on investment (ROI). Using the GridKicker to provide your electrical needs will also open up large numbers of rebates and tax write offs for “going green” from the federal government as well as state and local municipalities. No matter which way you look at it, it pays to have GridKickers providing your electrical power.
The scalability of the GridKicker adds to its diversity. The GridKicker will come in varying storage capacities, from 1,200 watts all the way up to 4,800 watts for the portable versions, and can expand to up to 20MW for large scale installations with centralized storage.
Due to the design of the GridKicker, there are no rooftop penetrations or complicated racking systems required. The GridKicker is self ballasting and just needs to be opened up, and if multiple units are being used, linked together.
When you are using the GridKicker, there will never be a surprise when it comes to the discharge level of your storage. The built in smart energy management software, along with integrated meters will let you know when it’s time for a recharge. The GridKicker can be recharged from the sun, as well as through conventional AC electricity from the grid. This can be taken advantage of during nighttime, periods of inclement weather and low light conditions. Consider this; if the GridKicker was used to provide your electrical requirements during peak usage hours, and was then fully recharged from the electrical grid during off peak usage hours, there is a built in profit margin with the price difference between peak usage electricity and off peak usage electricity. Add recharging from the sun, which is free, and you may never even have to use the electrical grid. In that case, after your initial upfront cost is recouped, you are getting free electricity, and if you are overproducing and selling excess electricity back to the grid, then you are profiting from your GridKicker installation.
Solar Cell: A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell is an electrical device that converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect, which is a physical and chemical phenomenon. It is a form of photoelectric cell, defined as a device whose electrical characteristics, such as current, voltage, or resistance, vary when exposed to light. Solar cells are the building blocks of photovoltaic modules, otherwise known as solar panels.
Solar cells are described as being photovoltaic irrespective of whether the source is sunlight or an artificial light.
The operation of a photovoltaic (PV) cell requires 3 basic attributes:
• The absorption of light, generating either electron hole pairs or excitons.
• The separation of charge carriers of opposite types.
• The separate extraction of those carriers to an external circuit.
Lithium Polymer Battery: A lithium polymer battery, (abbreviated variously as LiPo, LIP, Li-poly and others), is a rechargeable battery of in a pouch format. Unlike cylindrical and prismatic cells, LiPos come in a soft package or pouch, which makes them lighter but also less rigid. LiPos are regarded as a much safer counterpart to their cousin, lithium-ion batteries. Lithium Ion batteries have been known to overheat and cause thermal damage during charging and discharging, while LiPos are much better behaved under charging and discharging conditions.
Inverter: An inverter is an electronic device or circuitry that changes direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC). Most electrical devices in your home and office make use of alternating current, as the electrical grid puts out alternating current continuously.
The inverter itself does not produce any power; the power is provided by the DC sources, which in the case of GridKickers are Li-Po batteries.
Electrical Grid: The electrical grid is an interconnected network for delivering electricity from suppliers to consumers. It consists of generating stations that produce electrical power, high-voltage transmission lines that carry power from distant sources to demand centers, and distribution lines that connect individual customers.
The bulk power transmission network will move the power long distances, sometimes across international boundaries, until it reaches its wholesale customer (usually the company that owns the local electric power distribution network). Moving the power long distances creates transmission costs. When utilizing a GridKicker system, power is produced and stored when and where it is needed, eliminating transmission costs associated with moving power through a traditional power grid.
The electrical grid, in its current state, is not set up to handle the addition of alternative energy sources intermittently dumping power into it. The GridKicker solves this problem by providing a steady state source of power to the grid when needed by using the integrated battery system.
